To all the sweet people who were at the makeout room monday night,
THANK YOU for listening!!!!!!!
this is you:
audience

thanks also to Ara Anderson, who contributed trumpet, glockenspiel, piano, sousaphone, and witty rejoinders.
I think it's worth mentioning that I did not rehearse "I'm Old Fashioned" with Ara, and it was not on the set list.
I didn't even say, hey let's do "I'm Old Fashioned". I just started singing it.
I have to admit, it's not gracious or respectful to put someone on the spot like that in front of an audience.
It's risky and presumptuous and, I have to admit, kind of obnoxious.

But I think this recording proves there's something magical about music that is pulled straight out of the air
- made not from memory or rehearsal, or a pre-planned outline,
but entirely from impulse.

"I'm Old Fashioned"

"The fact that improvisation vanishes makes us appreciate that every moment of life is unique
- a kiss, a sunset, a dance, a joke. None will ever recur in quite the same way.
Each happens only once in the history of the universe." - Stephen Nachmanovitch
